BARRY ROSENSTEIN '81
Founder and Managing Partner
JANA Partners, LLC
Barry Rosenstein, known in the industry as the “under-performing board’s worst nightmare,” is the founder and managing partner of JANA Partners, LLC, a multi-billion dollar, event-driven hedge fund headquartered in New York City. Since its inception in 2001, funds managed by JANA have produced annualized returns far exceeding their relevant benchmarks. Among its investment strategies, JANA is recognized as a pioneer in the field of shareholder activism. Notable activist successes include partnering with Carl Icahn to cause Kerr-McGee Corp. to sell under-performing assets and recapitalize — resulting in the ultimate sale of the company. In 2008, JANA became the first activist to partner with a venture capital fund when it caused CNET Networks to sell itself to CBS, Inc. Other activist victories include bringing about transformational change while maximizing shareholder value at Artesyn Technologies, Deutsche Bourse, Houston Exploration Co., Herbalife, InterCept, Siebel Systems, SourceCorp, Time Warner, Titan International, and other companies.
